Monday

Bethany England was a penalty shoot-out star after converting her spot-kick in England’s last 16 tie. The Lionesses beat Nigeria 4-2 following a goalless 120 minutes and will face Colombia in the FIFA World Cup Quarter-Finals.

Tuesday

Congratulations to goalkeeper Joe Hilton who made his full debut for Blackburn in the Carabao Cup. Rovers edged out Walsall 4-3 at Ewood Park.

Elliot Lee’s Wrexham knocked out Callum Lang’s Wigan Athletic with a 4-2 penalty shoot-out success, following a goalless draw.

Also in cup action was Luke Bolton. His Salford City side progress into the next round after beating Preston North End 4-2 on penalties (2-2 full-time).

Gethin Jones and Aaron Morley both made late substitute appearances for Bolton which ensured a 1-0 home win against Barrow.

Wednesday

AFC Wimbledon new boy Ryan McLean stepped off the substitute’s bench to volley his side into the next round of the Carabao Cup. They knocked out Championship side Coventry City 2-1.

Thursday

Hibernian welcomed Swiss side Luzern to Easter Road in the Europa Conference League Third Qualifying Round, 1st Leg. A Martin Boyle inspired display saw Hibs establish a commanding 3-1 lead.

Friday

A Declan McManus brace for The New Saints sealed victory in their opening Welsh Premier League fixture of the season. TNS smashed Connah’s Quay Nomads 6-2 at Park Hall.

Saturday

The Lionesses came from behind to beat Colombia 2-1 in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Quarter-Final. Manchester United star Ella Toone completed a successful 90 minutes, while Tottenham’s Bethany England made a late substitute appearance.

Three first half goals ensured a comfortable afternoon for Gethin Jones and Aaron Morley in League One. Their Bolton side won 3-0 away at Cheltenham.

A late Callum Lang assist grabbed all 3 points for Wigan at the DW Stadium. They edged out Northampton Town and made it two wins from their opening two fixtures.

Liam Kitching’s Barnsley had to settle for a point following their long trip to Bristol Rovers (1-1).

Elliot Lee scored for Wrexham in the 1-1 draw at AFC Wimbledon. The EFL newcomers return to North Wales having gained their first point of the season.

Luke Bolton went head-to-head with Ronan Darcy at the Peninsula Stadium. It finished honours even with Salford City drawing 1-1 with Crawley Town.

Oldham Athletic trounced Aldershot 5-1 at Boundary Park with Ben Tollitt getting on the score sheet.

Sunday

Martin Boyle’s managed return to action following serious injury took another step with his half-time introduction at Fir Park. Trailing at the interval, Hibernian eventually lost 2-1 at Motherwell. #FullNinetyFamily
