Tuesday

The Lionesses cruised through to the knockout stages of the FIFA Women’s World Cup after maintaining an impressive 100% record in Group D. Both Ella Toone and Bethany England made late cameo appearances in the 6-1 demolition of China.

The New Saints’ European adventure ended prematurely in Luxembourg. Declan McManus netted a brace, but the reigning Welsh Champions lost 3-2 (4-3 on aggregate) to Swift Hesperange in Europa Conference League Qualifying.

Thursday

Faced with a 2-1 first leg deficit; A Martin Boyle two goal opening salvo sent Hibernian on their way to a memorable Europa Conference Qualifying win. The Edinburgh giants hammered Andorran side Inter Club D’Escaldes 6-1 and march into the next round.

Saturday

A sensational performance from Barnsley was easily the highlight in League One. Coveted defender Liam Kitching struck a great second half goal as the ‘The Tykes’ demolished Port Vale 7-0 at Oakwell.

Aaron Morley supplied the assist for Bolton’s opening goal as Wanderers sealed a comprehensive 3-0 home win against Lincoln City. Gethin Jones orchestrated a clean sheet for his defensive unit.

Wigan Athletic upset the odds to record a fantastic opening day victory at Derby County. Experienced forward Callum Lang captained his side to an important 2-1 win.

Salford City made a winning start to the new campaign, with Luke Bolton assisting the decisive goal in their 2-0 away victory at Forest Green Rovers.

Grimsby Town debutant Toby Mullarkey collected an opening day point and accolades from local press following a goalless draw with AFC Wimbledon.

Former Blackburn Rovers academy graduate Jack Evans made a dream start on his debut for Halifax after scoring the opening goal at The Shay Stadium. Supported by Tylor Golden and Jamie Stott, the Yorkshire outfit saw off Bromley 2-0 in the National League.

After a permanent switch to the North East, Ed Francis made a solid defensive contribution towards Gateshead’s 2-2 draw against Boreham Wood.
