The Socceroos were celebrating another win at the FIFA World Cup 2022. Stoke City centre-back Harry Souttar was outstanding again as they beat Denmark 1-0. Australia finish as runners-up in Group D, only denied top spot on goal difference by holders France.

Friday

A late equaliser rescued a point for Bolton who were in League One action. Gethin Jones and Aaron Morley were impressive for Wanderers in the 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers.

Saturday

Australia’s World Cup party continued at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Qatar. The Socceroos faced the mighty Argentina and Lionel Messi. Harry Souttar produced another fantastic night’s work and can be hugely proud of his efforts. The South American giants edged the last 16 tie 2-1 although the Aussies pushed them all the way.

‘Player of the Match’ Ella Toone was chief provider at Old Trafford in the WSL. She claimed two assists as Manchester United hammered Aston Villa 5-0.

It took only 12 minutes for Bethany England to score a goal after her second half introduction. Chelsea went on the rampage at Kingsmeadow, beating Leicester City 8-0.

Also in action was Luke Bolton, who starred for Salford in League Two. They were rewarded with a 3-0 win following the long trip to Gillingham with our man supplying an assist.

Defenders Jamie Stott and Tylor Golden kept the door shut at The Shay Stadium. Halifax claimed a narrow 1-0 win over promotion hopefuls Chesterfield.

Wrexham stay hot on the heels of Notts County at the top of the National League. Elliot Lee featured during the 1-1 draw at York.

Sunday

Emma Harries captained Reading for the first time and with the help of a ‘Player of the Match’ performance from Faye Bryson they edged out Tottenham 1-0 in the WSL.

Liverpool also clinched victory thanks to 2-0 success against West Ham. Taylor Hinds gave an excellent performance at Prenton Park. #FullNinetyFamily
